INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND CADETS
The cadet summer training program is designed to augment cadets' training from their home corps and squadrons. It offers concentrated training in organizational, recreational, career-related, instructional and leadership knowledge to prepare young people for advanced responsibility and leadership roles, through a dynamic learning program infused with a variety of transferable life skills.
An applicant must first be a member in good standing of a local corps or squadron, prior to Jan 1 of the training year in which he or she wishes to attend summer training. Application starts through the home corps or squadron.
All cadets attending summer training courses must be medically fit and have completed a Summer Training Application. Applicants for music training must also submit a completed Additional Information Form - Music. These forms are available to cadets from their home corps or squadron.
Candidates must have parental or guardian consent and their Commanding Officer’s recommendation to attend. They must also meet any other conditions specific to the course for which application is made, and in all cases must show an interest and aptitude for further cadet training.
Final selections for summer training are based on individual cadet merit, commanding officers’ recommendations, corps or squadron requirements, nationally-set quotas and available facilities. Competition for the more senior courses tends to be more intense due to the longer course duration and increased expectations of those recommended for training.
The candidate selection process is generally completed by mid-April of the year in which training is delivered. Candidates are advised of their appointments through their home corps or squadron.
Summer course candidates receive a training bonus of $60 per week ($10 per training day to a maximum total of $360) of completed training.
The following list of courses, experiences or exchanges is subject to modification at any time. Information regarding changes, if any, will be conveyed to cadet corps and squadrons as quickly as possible.
