2020 ROYAL NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL TATTOO (RNSIT)

5/3/2020

PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING BELOW INFORMATION FOR SENIOR BAND MEMBERS INTEREST IN THIS OPPORTUNITY:

Regional Cadet Support Unit (Atlantic) (RCSU(A)) will be hosting the Music Nationally Directed Activity (NDA) in 2020. Cadets from across the nation will participate in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo (RNSIT).  Participation in this activity will further develop cadet musicians to enable them to better support their corps/squadron, regionally directed activities (RDA) and/or Cadet Training Centre (CTC). This activity will also challenge them and enhance their concept of community service, teamwork, leadership and provide a better understanding of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

RCSU(A) will plan, coordinate and deliver the cadet’s participation at the RNSIT. This NDA will be conducted in Halifax, NS from 14 Jun – 4 Jul 20 (including travel days)

Seventy (70) cadets and eleven (11) adult staff will participate in this NDA.

RCSU(C): 22 cadets;

Consideration will be given to cadets who cannot arrive on the scheduled arrival date due to school exams or other school related commitments.  As required, they will be authorised a later travel date of
NLT 20 Jun 20

RCSU(A) has in the past been able to invigilate school exams on location in Shearwater, NS.  Cadets must arrange for the invigilation with their school themselves.  If schools allow exams to be given remotely cadets/RCSUs are authorised to provide RCSU(A) POC information to school principals to make the necessary arrangements.

Cadet performances and other activities will include:
a. Cadet program will be featured in a “Cadets Canada” scene having cadets (P&D and Mil Band) perform in Cadet uniforms on the main floor of the RNSIT venue;
b. Military Band cadets 16 years or older will also perform alongside the Army Reserve Band;
c. P&D cadets will also perform with massed pipe band;
d. Military Band cadets who are not performing with the Army Reserve band will also perform on the main stage;
e. cadets will perform in cadet only bands (P&D and Mil Band) for the festival venues throughout the city;
f. some cadets will be requested to carry Flags for the RNSIT opening ceremonies. (These cadets will still perform as described above);
g. some cadets will also be asked to assist as extras (outside the performance requirements);
h. cadets that have been selected for CTC staff will be required to undergo CTC Staff Cadet training. (i.e. Instructional Technique (IT) classes and assessment, music theory threshold assessment, practical assessment, etc.); and
i. cultural activities will be planned for the participating cadets and staff.
