Congratulations to FCpl Braun for his completion of Challenge/Activity #8: Prepare for an Aircrew Survival Exercise - Part I. These were submitted on 14 May 20. Great job! Cadets are encouraged to complete the previous challenges over the course of the summer. LEVEL 1I did this on the weekend with my Dad. I laid out a few extra items that I might take myself if I was going on a backpacking trip, but wouldn't bring on an FTX (knife, camp stove, bearspray, flint & steel). Thank you, Levi Braun LEVEL 2Here are my pictures for Level 2, Challenge 8.
I completed this one today with my Grandpa. We only used a knife, a hatchet, and matches (no rope). We gathered the tinder and kindling and shavings from a squirrel nest first. I peeled cedar saplings to use the bark for lashings of the frame. Then I cut and sharpened the cedar trees for the stand. I was able to tie the frame together with the cedar strips. If I did this again I would definitely use pine or spruce boughs for making smoke instead of cedar because the cedar didn't smoke much. I added spruce branches on and it smoked a lot more. This would make it more visible in the daytime. I would make it at least 7-8' tall and make the platform out of thicker live chunks so they wouldn't burn through so fast. I enjoyed doing this project today! Thanks, Levi Braun Comments are closed.
